FLOWER Beauty Wins 2013 Beauty Inc Award for Newcomer of the Year
NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Maesa and actress Drew Barrymore were honored today with the "Newcomer of the Year: Mass" at the 2013 Beauty Inc Awards in New York City. The award was presented by Beauty Inc, a Women's Wear Daily special-issue magazine, for the Walmart-exclusive beauty brand FLOWER.
Announced at the 12th Annual Beauty Inc Awards breakfast at The Four Seasons restaurant and in the December issue of the magazine, the "Newcomer of the Year: Mass" Award is an editors' choice award that recognizes a new mass beauty brand which resonates with retailers and consumers alike. Beauty Inc is widely recognized as the premier source of news for the beauty industry and the annual Beauty Inc Awards highlight the year's most notable beauty industry achievements.
Drew Barrymore stated, "Thank you to WWD Beauty Inc for awarding FLOWER Beauty. I am so proud to accept this in celebration of women, including my daughter and my future daughter."
"We are truly honored to be recognized for our exclusive beauty line FLOWER with the Newcomer of the Year Award," said Petra Tucker-Moss, Senior Director of Product Development & Marketing at Maesa. "Drew's passion and knowledge of premium cosmetics combined with the beauty engineering expertise of our team at Maesa has truly allowed us to develop a makeup line that delivers on its promise of bringing premium quality make-up to mass."
Launched in January 2013, FLOWER encompasses Barrymore's favorite cosmetics that she's used throughout her career. "I have grown up in a make-up chair. I loved watching women in this aspirational environment," said Barrymore. "It was and always will be important to me to send messages of empowerment. And on a business level, I wanted to give women the finest formulas. They deserve to have that level of quality, and I wanted to be the brand that delivers that to them."
Through a revolutionary business model, FLOWER has formulated products and designed packaging at the same level as prestige brands. As an owner of the brand, Barrymore takes pride in promoting FLOWER, which in turn allows the company to put all of its money into the formulations and packaging, and not into advertising. This saved revenue allows FLOWER to spend two to three times more on formulation and packaging than the average mass market brand, resulting in premium makeup of the highest quality at a price women can afford, ushering in a new era of cosmetics. The portfolio consists of more than 181 eye, face, lip and nail products ranging from $4.98 to $13.98, and are available in more than 1,500 Walmart stores and on Walmart.com.
