Police seek source of suspicious Big Island fires

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - Hawaii County police are looking for information on suspicious fires lit over the last two weeks.

West Hawaii Today reports the fires were lit south of Puuanahulu, along Mamalahoa Highway, between the Daniel K. Inouye Highway in South Kohala and Mile Marker 24 in North Kona.

A fire Nov. 25 burned 500 acres near Mile Marker 14.

A day later, a fire burned 150 acres near Mile Marker 16 and a quarter acre near Mile 23.

A fourth fire burned undetermined acreage Nov. 28 at Mile Marker 16.

Firefighters on Monday and Wednesday extinguished fires of 2,000 square feet and 4,800 square feet of vacant land.

No structures have been harmed in the fires.
