Road conditions blamed for over a hundred accidents on Thursday

Thursday's arctic blast has been responsible for school closures, office closures, event cancellations and more than a hundred area accidents.

Local law enforcement had their hands full. DPS troopers responded to 22 accidents, including one fatality in Hockey County near Smyer, nearly 18 miles west of Lubbock.

Authorities say Francisco Javier Alvizo, 34, of Lubbock was killed and two others were injured in that accident. Lubbock police officers worked 97 accidents on Thursday, 15 of those with injury.

While law enforcement officials are advising people to stay off of the roads, some people just don't have that option.

"Most people want to stay off of the roads which makes sense because no one wants to drive in this weather," said Paul Contreras, a manager at Orlando's Italian Restaurant.

"But behind the scenes is where everything is going on, we have tons of deliveries," he said.

Workers at Orlando's have been on about four hundred deliveries on Thursday alone.

Dine-in-only restaurants are not getting that same experience. Chick-Fil-A actually closed their doors early.
