Lightning strikes delay Hawaiian Air flights

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Three Hawaiian Airlines flights landed safely on Sunday after they were struck by lightning.

  • Flight 1121 was flying to Honolulu from Hilo when hit at 4:10 p.m.
  • Flight 278 from Honolulu to Kona was hit around 5 p.m.
  • Flight 236 from Honolulu bound for Kahului was hit around 5:50 p.m.

Hawaiian Airlines says that two of the aircraft sustained "very minor damage" and as a precaution, the two aircraft were pulled off the line for maintenance resulting in cascading delays for the rest of the day.

Hawaiian says the lightning hits forced delays of anywhere from three minutes to four hours.

No injuries were reported.
