HONOLULU (AP) - The lead designer of Honolulu's holiday lights display is putting on the final touches before the downtown tradition opens this weekend.
The annual Honolulu City Lights display opens Saturday with a "Santa's Underwater Adventure" theme.
Lead designer Owen Ho has been involved with the event for nearly three decades. He tells the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://ow.ly/rmZ8E ) he's making more ornaments this year and repairing sea critters that may have been damaged in storage.
The ornaments are used for three years before a new theme is chosen.
Ho says he travels around jotting down ideas for the display.
This year's 65-foot Norfolk pine tree was taken from a Pearl City home. It will be decorated with between 75,000 and 100,000 lights and 400 to 600 ornaments.
