19 Action News Reporter Ed Gallek is learning more of the story behind charges against two parents for the death of their 12-year-old child.

Randy and Carissa Jones are charged with involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and permitting child abuse for not getting little Tia Jones proper medical treatment.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutors say the child had an infection in her leg and that it spread to her lungs and she died from pneumonia.

We've obtained a copy of the 911 call the mother made when she reported the child not breathing. She sounded very calm and a dispatcher tried to lead her and her husband through CPR until an ambulance got there.

The parents said Tia had been showing symptoms of a cold but investigators also found dozens of unexplained marks on her body including scars in different stages of healing.

It was also discovered that the cut on her leg, which became infected, had been festering for weeks.

Neighbors call the family private. Investigators were told Tia had been adopted and she was home-schooled.

Police do not believe religious beliefs led the family to not get medical help.

Investigators found the mother had just been to a doctor for herself.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner and the Richmond Heights Police led the investigation.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutors filed arrest warrants for the mom and dad.

A court date has been set for later this month.
