Downed power line causes injury in Kailua

KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 20-year old man suffered injuries after officials say he was blown back from a downed power line in Kailua.

Honolulu Fire Capt. James Todd said it happened around 9:15 a.m. Sunday.

Capt. Todd said power lines came down, landed on cars and caused cars to smoke. He said the man approached the area with a fire extinguisher when he got knocked out.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital in critical condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Hawaiian Electric Company officials said approximately 1,700 customers in the area were without power for around an hour.
