(NBC) - Change has already come to Saturday Night Live this season.
Several cast members departed and half a dozen new ones joined.
Now more change is on the way.
Head writer and Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers is in his final months on SNL, before leaving next year to take on new late night duties for NBC.
Thirteen years in Studio 8-H have been an education for Meyers.
"I feel like my next job is like, right next door to the college," he said.
He'll segue into a new job in February in the same building as the new host of Late Night when Jimmy Fallon takes over as host of The Tonight Show.
How will Late Night going forward be different from Jimmy's show?
"There'll be way less wonderful impressions," Myers said. "There'll be way less beautiful singing, and all the things that Jimmy does better than anyone else in late night. I'm very aware that I don't do as well."
Topical comedy will play a greater role.
"I really do like talking about things in the news. I like having people who will play people in the news, and that's an element of Weekend Update that we want to bring with us," Meyers said.
