HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii is investigating whether any state rules and regulations were broken during the filming of the new History Channel television show "American Jungle."

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said Wednesday hunting at night is illegal on both public and private land. But an episode that aired Nov. 17 showed hunters at night.

The department says the Division of Forestry and Wildlife last spring denied the production crew's request for a permit to film on state forest lands. But maps used on the show clearly demark areas under the department's jurisdiction.

Public affairs representatives of History Channel owner A&E Television Networks didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment Wednesday.

The department says the series depicts "clans" fighting over access trails to territorial hunting grounds.
