Helping Hands: The Gift of Hope

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

It's a nondescript building on Nimitz Highway, but inside the people at Helping Hands Hawaii are hard at work.

The nonprofit is gearing up for another holiday season, a season where the presence or absence of a small gift for a child may make a big difference in that person's life.

"We've seen some really, I would say, stories that are heart-wrenching.  At the same time they are heart-warming in the sense that these families still have not given up" said President and CEO Jan Harada.

Helping Hands Hawaii offers a multitude of services to people in need.  From language access to immigrants to social services and support for the poor and homeless, the firm aims to assist those who need it the most.

Hawaii News Now is proud to partner once again with Helping Hands Hawaii and their Adopt a Family program.  Over the coming weeks, Hawaii News Now will be featuring families in our newscast that are asking for small donations to make the holidays a little brighter.

"Most of the wish lists items you'll find are very basic; pots and pans, bedding, even household cleaning supplies and children's educational toys" noted Harada.

While those items may seem rather ordinary, but they can have an extraordinary effect.

"Any small gesture of a donation during that time for those children and families really helps to lift their spirits.  It goes a long way to the New Year, gives them hope".

And that could be the greatest gift of all.
