HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Waianae native Max Holloway has finalized a deal to fight Will Chope in at UFC Fight Night set for January 3rd in Singapore.
Holloway -- who stands 5'11" -- is typically the tallest fighter in his division, but against the 6'4" Chope, he'll find himself in an unusual situation.
"To have a tall is kind of weird," said Holloway. "A lot of the fights that we watch he likes to go the distance so all I really need to worry about is his knees and his elbows."
"I'm excited to see what we can do against this guy."
Holloway's comfort zone has always been his standup game, but never before has he faced an opponent of Chope's stature or of his Muay Thai background. With six weeks to prepare, Holloway has sought out the help of trainer Ivan Flores.
"I might surprise people in this fight. I might go to the ground or I might strike all the way, if it goes to the ground, I might try and finish him. Where ever it goes, i'm going to try and finish him. I need a finish. It's been a while since I got a finish, so, I need one."
Holloway has a 7-3 overall record but is 0-2 in last pair of appearances. Chope has an overall MMA record of 19-5.
