Kalaheo man in police custody after stand-off with officers

Shortly before 10 a.m. today, two police offers went to the home of Kalaheo resident Robert Wayne Yount, age 83, to serve him with a grand jury warrant.

According to a preliminary investigation, Yount failed to comply with the officers as they attempted to detain him at his home on Palama Street. The officers entered the home when Yount barricaded himself in his bedroom. Yount then fired a single shot in the direction of one of the officers.

The officers were eventually able to detain Yount, and he remains in police custody.

Yount was initially arrested for first degree attempted murder. Bail has not yet been set.

According to police, no other shots were fired and no injuries were reported in the incident. There were no other occupants in the home at the time.

Police are continuing their investigation of this incident.
