Children's Miracle Network Champion Ikaika Kaahanui shows us what it means to be strong
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Ikaika Kaahanui was recently chosen as a Children's Miracle Network Champion. Just hours after birth Ikaika was rushed to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, where experts found several conditions with the most urgent being a hole between his trachea and esophagus, a congenital defect called tracheoesophageal fistula. Over the years he underwent over a dozen major surgeries.
He is now in the 3rd grade, talking and using American Sign Language. He visits Kapiolani twice a week for speech and feeding therapy. Ikaika joins us with his mom, Amanda, to tell us about his adventure to Florida and Washington D.C.
