Health Dept. to burn all remaining OxyElite Pro

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Hawaii Department of Health will burn $250,000 worth of OxyElite Pro on Tuesday. 

The diet supplements are believed to be causing liver failure and liver damage in more than 40 people in Hawaii, and a dozen more on the mainland.  One woman died, two others had to have transplants.

OxyElite Pro was pulled from all Hawaii stores last month and the remaining product from the 29 retailers was gathered by state inspectors Monday. 

Tuesday, all of it, 329,509 capsules and 8,342 ounces of powder will be burned at H-power.

Coming up on Hawaii News Now on Tuesday, an exclusive interview with one of the patients who required a transplant.  The 22-year old was in a coma at The Queen's Medical Center when the call came, that a liver was available.

The previously healthy man used to work out almost daily, now, he can barely walk a mile.
