JERRY CITY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Sunday night storm caused major destruction in the Wood County village of Jerry City, and at least four people were injured when an EF1 tornado struck.
Power lines were downed, trees snapped like toothpicks and debris scattered everywhere.
"It petrifies me. Scared, " said Wes Tracy, describing his neighborhood.
Several houses were damaged but a duplex was destroyed, leaving four people with minor injuries.
Carol Hopple was inside when the duplex blew apart.
"Well, you could hear water from the sink gurgling up and possibly strong hail. Realized it was more than that and ran into my living room," said Ms. Hopple.
All that stands of Hopple's duplex are four walls.
She says the now-confirmed tornado bore down on the place around 5:30pm. According to the National Weather Service, the EF1 tornado was on the ground for about five minutes and sustained winds of between 105 and 110 miles per hour. It was between 75 and 100 feet wide, and first touched down near the intersection of Main Street and Huffman Road in Jerry City at 5:35 p.m. The tornado continued about a mile east along Jerry City Road before lifting back into the sky at 5:40 p.m.
"This is a nightmare," said Hopple.
A nightmare maybe, but folks along Main Street are grateful nobody was killed.
"Lots of property damage. Things can be replaced. But a soul can't," said James Tracy.
