KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Dozens of students at Damien Memorial School collected non-perishable foods and monetary donations Saturday in an effort to help those in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
Paolo Atienza, a senior at Damien, is part of the student government. He helped organize the food drive.
"We really want to go out into the world and make it a better place," Atienza said. "Especially since a lot of the students here have connections to the Philippines we just felt it was the right thing to do."
Atienza also said that Matson agreed to ship all of the goods to the Philippines at no cost.
