A 25-year old Anahola man was injured in an early morning house fire Monday, which resulted in significant damage to the structure.

Fire and police responded at 5:09 a.m. this morning to the one-story home at 3771 Kawelo St. Nearly 40 percent of the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived. Six occupants of the home – four adults and two children - were outside the structure when officials arrived at approximately 5:15 am. One adult male appeared to have sustained non-life threatening injuries from the fire. The man was transported by medics to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment. He has since been released.

Sixteen firefighters had the blaze under control by 5:37 a.m. Estimated damage to the structure is $180,000, with an additional loss of $30,000 estimated for the contents of the home.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the residents displaced by the fire.

It is unknown at this time where and how the blaze started. An investigation is ongoing. No other structures or property were affected by the fire.
