Traffic contra-flowed in Laie while crews fix pole hit by lightning

LAIE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kamehameha Highway was reopened at approximately 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Laie after crews worked to replace a utility pole that was struck by lightning last night, according to Hawaiian Electric Company officials.

HECO says power was restored to all 303 customers.

According to police, the affected highway was between Kokololio Beach Park and Pounders Beach Park.

Meanwhile, crews finished repairing another downed utility pole in Haleiwa near Jameson's By The Sea restaurant. Kamehameha Highway was closed there in both directions but was reopened shortly after 4 p.m., police said.

HECO says a power outage this morning in Manoa was caused by weather. They say it happened around 8:45 a.m. with power restored to all 600 customers by 10:40 a.m.
