WASHINGTON, DC (CBS) - One month after the rollout of Healthcare.gov, the focus remains on the website's technical problems and millions of insured Americans who are learning they cannot keep their current plans.
Darrell Issa, R-CA, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, released meeting notes showing that just six people had signed up for healthcare on the website during its first day of operation.
Early enrollment figures for Healthcare.gov turned over to the House Oversight Committee show a total of 248 people enrolled in the first two days.
Experts have said the healthcare exchanges need to average 39,000 enrollees a day to meet the goal of 7 million insured Americans by March 1.
The White House said it will release official enrollment figures later this month.
Small business owner Phil Sherburne signed up and is saving $700 a month, but he says it took him days to make it happen.
"I don't know anyone else who got through," Sherburne said.
President Barack Obama's administration has acknowledged the problems thousands of people are having navigating the website and has pledged to have them fixed by the end of the month.
The White House also said it expected enrollment to start slowly then pick up significantly as the March 31 deadline approaches.
The other big issue is that insurance companies are telling up to 3 million Americans they will lose their current insurance policies because they don't meet new government standards.
"In many cases the inability of an individual to not keep their coverage is because their insurance company has decided to phase out their plan," said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida.
The White House said most of the canceled policies did not provide adequate coverage.
