Hawaii revises '12 high school graduation rate

HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii Department of Education is revising high school graduation rates because of data errors.

The department said Wednesday the 2012 statewide graduate rate is one percentage point lower than what was reported in August. The corrected rate is 81 percent.

Officials say an internal review found that a programming omission incorrectly coded outcomes for 205 students, affecting graduation rates for 37 high schools.

Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi says learning of data errors this late in the year is frustrating. She says there's no excuse for these errors.

The department says it will implement "quality assurance processes" to ensure data integrity.
