HONOLULU (AP) - Two members of a group formed as an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street protest have been sentenced to jail terms.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1dm0cQ5) reports Circuit Judge Patrick Border on Monday sentenced Catherine Russell to 60 days in jail and Blade Michael Walsh to 45 days in jail for obstructing government operations.
The (de)Occupy Honolulu protesters Friday were convicted in a jury trial of interfering with city crews attempting to enforce the Honolulu's stored property ordinance at Thomas Square on Sept. 26, 2012.
Prosecutors say they refused to get out of a tent that the city had tagged for removal.
Russell says she was standing up for the homeless. Walsh says he stands by what he did and was defending the rights of people staying at Thomas Square.
