Posted: Updated:

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i softball head coach Bob Coolen released the 2014 softball schedule which features teams from 11 different conferences with 11 squads that advanced to the 2013 NCAA tournament. The Rainbow Wahine will play a total of 50 games this year—six at neutral sites, 14 road games, and 30 home games. The 'Bows will once again host four non-conference tournaments and make their annual trip to Las Vegas, Nev. for six games in UNLV's Easton Desert Classic (Feb. 13-16)

Rainbow Wahine fans actually have their first opportunity to watch the 2014 softball squad this Fall, in the 2013 Kama'aina Classic this Nov. 8-9. The 'Bows will face both BYU-Hawai'i and Chaminade twice each in a six-game tournament.

Hawai'i opens the season with a bang with the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic—featuring Delaware, Hampton, and UCLA. The Delaware Blue Hens posted a 35-22 overall record and a 12-9 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. Hampton is the defending Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champions and advanced to its first-ever NCAA tournament last year. PAC-12 power UCLA returns to play in Hawai`i for the first time since 2000.

The 'Bows then will test their luck with their annual trip to Las Vegas, Nev. In this year's UNLV Easton Desert Classic, UH will face host team UNLV, Florida, Seattle, Portland State, Nevada and Utah. It will be the first-ever meeting between Hawai'i and SEC heavyweight, Florida.

The Rainbow Wahine will then return home to host three consecutive tournaments, beginning with the Bank of Hawaii Invitational which runs from Feb. 20-22. The Invitational features North Carolina, St. Mary's (CA), and former Western Athletic Conference rival and defending WAC champion, San Jose State.

After a nine-day layoff, the 'Bows begin the Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament from March 5-8. Coming to Honolulu for UH's third home tournament is PAC-12 power California, Pacific, James Madison. The 'Bows then will end their pre-season tourneys with the Rainbow Wahine Classic (Mar. 12-15) with BYU, Oregon, James Madison, and Valporaiso.

Hawai'i will play two more non-conference games in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 26 with single games at Loyola Marymount and against Missouri-Kansas City.

The Rainbow Wahine will then begin defense of the their 2013 Big West Conference title with a three-game series at UC Riverside (Mar. 28-29). Hawai'i will host three Big West series against Cal State Fullerton (April 4-5); Cal Poly (April 18-19) and Cal State Northridge (May 2-3).

"All of our home tournaments will feature marquee teams along with very competitive programs," says Coolen.  "It will be really good competition that will test our young team. We have four PAC-12 teams coming to Hawai'i this season and we will also face SEC-power Florida for the first time ever in the UNLV tournament this year."
