HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

"I'm feeling as happy as any dad can be". Those words coming from Kaha Wong after he learned his son Kolten made the Cardinals World Series roster.

"As a dad you just look up in the sky and say thank you" he continued.

The Wongs will now pack their bags and head to the mainland. They'll meet up with Kolten in St. Louis on Friday, choosing to forego games one and two in Boston. Wong doesn't mind it too much, as he says being in a hostile environment isn't always a good time.

"Oh, my god, I mean, it's fun but it's also stress when people come up and say ‘what are you doing in that hat'...I'm not used to people telling me that" he said by phone from Hilo.

This World Series will represent the first time ever that two Hawaii-born players face off in the fall classic. Shane Victorino of the Red Sox is the other. This is his third World Series appearance.

Victorino may be an opponent on the field, but in life, he's a good friend to the family.

"When Kolten made it to the ‘bigs', Shane texted Kolten. When they won the NLCS, he texted Kolten and said congratulations. I just love someone like that that can go and take time out of his day to say ‘hey Kolten congrats'. To me, that's unbelievable".

Even more unbelievable, the fact that in a little over two short years, Kolten has gone from college player to World Series competitor.

"I don't know if it's a once in a lifetime thing but it's a time that you gotta take advantage. Hey, not everybody can say your son was in the World Series."
