Hawaiian unveils faster security check lines

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The state's largest airline is now aiming to have the state's fastest security check lines.

Earlier this week, Hawaiian Airlines rolled out its new TSA Pre check lanes at Honolulu, Kahului and Lihue airports, which allow select customers to avoid many of the hassles of airport security checks.

"It is far quicker to get actually through the archway and to leave your liquids and your computer in your bags and not have to take off your shoes," said Hawaiian Airlines CEO Mark Dunkerley.

"When people have the pre-check emblem on their boarding pass. It's like they won a golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the first time they do it."

Several passengers raved about the new lanes.

"Faster yes, especially when you're traveling with kids. You don't have to take off your shoes, take out your laptop," said Lisa Ramirez, who is relocating to California with her family.

Added Sacramento resident Kathy Sanders: "It was really quick and they seemed to be efficient and it was no problem at all."

But others were less impressed.

"I didn't think it made that much of a difference as for speed. I can't see moving much faster," said Seattle resident Rocky Lam.

Hawaiian has two pre check lanes at Honolulu Airport and well as lanes in Kahului and Lihue Airports. A fifth lane is planned for Kona International Airport next year.

Passengers can sign up for the service when they purchase their tickets on line. The TSA then conducts a security check to determine who is eligible for the service.
