HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Local musician Kaipo Kapua made his initial court appearance on Monday.

The 26-year old is charged with second degree assault, two counts of first degree terroristic threatening and felony abuse of a family or household member against his girlfriend.

He remains behind bars unable to post $50,000 bond.

According to court documents, Sara Wilson reported to police that she was initially strangled by Kapua last Thursday at around 9 a.m. Then Wilson said she was strangled a second time while Kapua brandished a knife threatening to kill her. Wilson reportedly told police that he said she "was not leaving the residence alive."

Wilson then reported that Kapua attempted to stab her in the throat and abdomen – which she deflected. But, he was able to stab her in the right knee. Kapua then transported Wilson to Castle Medical Center for treatment to the injury – but Wilson reportedly told a doctor it was caused by a fall. Kapua then drove Wilson back to the residence where she fell asleep due to the medications.

Late Thursday night, Wilson awoke and attempted to report the incident to police. Kapua did not allow her to leave threatening her with a knife. She was able to escape and reported the incident to the Kaneohe Police Station.

Kapua was then arrested shortly before 2 a.m. Friday morning at their Kahaluu home on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping. Prosecutors later changed the charges. The two have been living together for the past two years and have a child together.

He is scheduled to be back in court on Wednesday.
