FRANKLIN COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

The Franklin County Coroner is criticizing the Ohio Prison System saying Ariel Castro did not die of auto-erotic asphyxiation.

Dr. Jan Gorniak says Castro committed suicide and died from hanging.

Dr. Gorniak performed Castro's autopsy and tells 19 Action News Reporter Scott Taylor that officials at the Correctional Reception Center didn't consult with her before releasing the auto-erotic asphyxiation theory.

The Ohio Prison Systems released their internal findings on the convicted kidnapper and rapist's suicide Thursday. Read the complete report HERE.

Castro had been sentenced on August 1 to life in prison, plus 1,000 years, for kidnapping and sexually assaulting Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus while holding them captive in his Seymour Avenue house for over a decade.
