Board of Water Supply crews have completed repairs to
an 8-inch water main break on Kahuawai
Street in Waipahu. Water service was restored to all affected customers at
approximately 12:00 p.m.
Kahuawai Street remains closed between Kahu Street and
Kahuapili Street as crews conduct repairs to the roadway. The road is expected to re-open late Thursday afternoon.
Kahuawai Street in Waipahu was closed early Thursday morning because of a water main break, and officials from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply are working to restore service to approximately 25 homes affected by the outage.
Sources at the scene of the break, reported to between Kahu Street and Kahuapili Street, say the 8-inch broken main was installed in 1965.
Photographs from the scene show a large hole in the street surface, with a car sitting just several feet away from the hole.
