Agent facing retrial joins in Hawaii media request

HONOLULU (AP) - The federal agent facing a retrial in the shooting death of a man inside a Waikiki fast-food restaurant has joined in a request by Hawaii media to prohibit closed court sessions in his case without giving the public a chance to object.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii News Now also asks the Hawaii Supreme Court to release transcripts of closed proceedings from his murder trial that ended with a deadlocked jury.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports State Department Special Agent Christopher Deedy's attorney filed papers Tuesday saying they adopt the arguments by the newspaper and television station.

Circuit Judge Karen Ahn held a private bench conference with the jury out of the courtroom and then cleared the court before declaring a mistrial in Deedy's case in August.
