Hawaii County trying to gain pharmacy building support

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - A Kauai County Council committee has struck down a funding request for a University of Hawaii at Hilo pharmacy building.

West Hawaii Today reports chances are slim other counties will support the $38 million funding request. It's one of 14 bills being circulated among the counties to be offered to the state Legislature.

Hilo Councilman Dennis Onishi is trying to generate support for the pharmacy building, named after the late U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye. The Hawaii County Council Committee on Governmental Relations and Economic Development is scheduled to take it up Tuesday.

Other measures in the package include Honolulu's bill to require helmets statewide for motorcycle, motor scooter and mo-ped drivers and $2.8 million for a primary care training program at Hilo Medical Center.
