Man in serious condition after Stadium freeway crash

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A man in his forties was taken to the hospital in serious condition on Wednesday morning after crashing his delivery truck into a tree on an embankment near the Aloha Stadium, according to Honolulu Fire Department officials.

The accident reportedly happened just before 5:45 a.m., when the man's Courier Corporation of Hawaii truck ran off the road on a interchange between the H-1 freeway and the Moanalua Freeway near the stadium.

Photographs from the scene show severe damage to the front of the vehicle, and Honolulu Fire Department officials say the damage made getting the victim out of the driver's seat more difficult.

"Power tools were necessary to free the male," said Capt. Carlton Yamada.

Capt. Yamada also told Hawaii News Now's Ramsay Wharton that tread marks in the area of the accident may not have necessarily been from this morning's accident, as the area is known to be dangerous for drivers who enter the interchange too quickly.
