HONOLULU – Longtime rivals University of Hawai‘i and Brigham Young University announced a two-game football series scheduled for 2017 and 2018. The teams will meet Nov. 25, 2017 in Honolulu and Nov. 17, 2018 in Provo, Utah.
Earlier this year, the teams cancelled a two-game series for 2013 and 2014 due to the creation of the Mountain West championship game which conflicted with the 2013 game. Upon the announcement of the cancellation, the schools agreed to look into scheduling a future series.
As longtime members of the Western Athletic Conference, the Hawai‘i and BYU renewed its rivalry in 2011 and again in 2012 after a nearly decade-long hiatus. BYU won both games – 41-20 in Honolulu in 2011 and 47-0 in Provo in 2012. The schools had previously met in 2002 and played nearly every year from 1978-98.
BYU leads the all-time series 21-8.
In 2017, UH is scheduled to play a home game against Kansas, Sept. 2 and a road game at UCLA, Sept. 9. In 2018, the Rainbow Warriors are scheduled to host Navy, Sept. 1 and play at Army, Sept. 15.
