On the heels of two conference road wins, one in front of a regionally televised audience, University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine outside hitter Emily Hartong has been named the Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week. The honor is the seventh of her career and a league-high third of the season.
Hartong secured her seventh and eighth double-double last week when she spearheaded wins at Long Beach State and UC Irvine. She delivered 14 kills and 11 digs against LBSU while hitting .414 (14-2-29), then the next night she drilled a match-high 25 kills at UC Irvine and swung at an impressive .488 (25-4-43) clip with a team-high five blocks.
For the week, she averaged 5.57 kills and 3.14 digs, and hit .458 (39-6-72).
Hartong leads the Big West in total kills (259) and kills per set (4.62), while ranking No. 8 in hitting percentage (.308).
The 'Bows continue Big West play this week when they host UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly on Friday and Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
