Gamecocks drop in AP poll, Clemson rankings unchanged
COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) South Carolina dropped one spot in the latest Associated Press Poll released Sunday morning. The Gamecocks, ranked No. 14 in the new poll, notched a 38-25 victory on Saturday night against Kentucky at Williams-Brice Stadium.
The Gamecocks (4-1, 2-1) have been ranked 54 consecutive weeks in the poll, which extends their school record-long streak. South Carolina is tied with Stanford for fifth-longest current streak of being ranked in the AP Top 25.
Head coach Steve Spurrier and his team will return to game action Oct. 12, at Arkansas with kickoff set for 12:21 p.m. on the SEC Network.
Alabama held onto the top spot in the national rankings after stepping out of conference to smack Georgia State 45-3. Georgia held slipped a spot to No. 7 in the latest AP Poll with its 34-31 victory on the road in overtime over Tennessee.
Clemson continues to be ranked No. 3.
Texas A&M was ranked No. 9 entering its bye week and stayed at the spot while LSU remains No. 10 in the AP Poll. Florida, ranked No. 18 entering the week, moved up in the polls with a 30-10 victory over Arkansas. The Gators are ranked No. 17 after the win.
Ole Miss suffered its second straight defeat losing to Auburn 30-22 on the road on Saturday night. With the loss, the Rebels dropped out of the rankings.
Missouri made its season debut in the polls after its big victory on the road against Vanderbilt. The Tigers are 5-0 on the season.
