Carissa Moore's pursuit the ASP world championship will come down to the final day of the seasons final event at Cascais Girls Pro in Portugal.
The 21-year old from Palolo Valley holds a 200-point lead over 19-year old Tyler Wright and whoever finishes the tournament with the higher ranking will claim the 2013 crown.
Friday, Moore took out five-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore by a narrow margin of 13.80 to 13.35.
"It was definitely a critical heat," Moore said, "If I lost that heat I would have ended up with 9th place points and Tyler has a heat to go. I just want to give it my best shot and luckily it worked out."
Moore will take on South African rookie Bianca Buitendag in the quarters and Wright is against fellow Aussie Sally Fitzgibbons.
Hawaii's Coco Ho also advanced to the quarterfinals, she'll face Paige Hareb.
