Round three of the Quiksilver Pro began with three Hawaiians in the field, but ended the day with all but one.
A pair of them went head-to-head in Sebastian Zietz and John John Florence. However, it was apparent early on who would move on to round four.
Florence jumped out to an early lead with an 8.17 ride that saw him duck deep into a shoulder high barrel before following it up with a full-bodied snapback, in which, the 20-year old bounced off the face of the wave before standing up.
Florence held on to down Zietz 15.67 to 10.20, advancing to round four where he'll face Mick Fanning and Michael Bourez.
In earlier action, Freddie Pattachia fell short against Kai Otton 7.40 to 4.10.
