Posted: Updated:

The Hawai`i Pacific Volleyball Team started off the mainland portion of its road trip with a strong showing, sweeping Holy Names 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 28-26). The win moves HPU to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the Pacific West Conference. Holy Names drops to 0-15 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

The Sea Warriors came out the locker room hot building a three-point lead early in the first set. With the score 15-12, Hawai`i Pacific would go on a 5-0 run sparked by a Haley Doerfler kill and capped with back-to-back kills by Elizabeth Culpepper. HPU closed the door by winning five of the next eight points to take set one 25-15.

Set two would play out similarly to the first, as HPU imposed its will in the middle of the frame going on 6-2 run that featured a pair of kills from both Kasey Thompson and Pomai Recca.  A 5-1 run to close out the second (25-20), gave the Sea Warriors a commanding 2-0 lead.

In set three, the Hawks stepped up the intensity and put up a strong fight, but the play of Doerfler, Recca and Samantha Rummans would prove to be too much as the Sea Warriors took the final set 28-26.

Rummans led the way for HPU with 10 kills while Thompson and Recca each had nine.

Hannah Schuett set the table all night dishing out a game-high 15 assists.

Head Coach Daryl Kapis commented on his team's victory, "We came out strong in the first two games and held off a fiery team and crowd in game three. They really tested our resolve in our first game of the this road trip."

With a quick turnaround the Sea Warriors are back in the gym tomorrow. They move across the bay to San Francisco to face Academy of Art at 7 p.m. PST.
