Kawamoto's Kahala statues on the move

KAHALA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The new owner of Genshiro Kawamoto's former Kahala mansions is doing a little housekeeping; those now legendary statues are on the move.

Alexander and Baldwin purchased the 27 properties earlier this month. Neighbors had complained for years about the dilapidated mansions.

A&B says it will continue to fix the properties up and then sell them off over the next 3 to 5 years.

"We think there's a lot of potential for us to create value through cleaning up the properties and selling off the lots.  In some limited cases, we may build some homes on the lots before we sell them, but in most cases we're expecting to simply clean up the lots and sell them and we think that will be a very good investment that will also benefit the neighborhood in the process," explained Chris Benjaimin, A&B's president and chief operation officer.

The company would not say where the statues are being moved.
