Grant aims to combat domestic violence in Hawaii

HONOLULU (AP) - The Domestic Violence Action Center in Honolulu will receive a federal grant to establish a program for the Native Hawaiian community.

The center assists underserved communities, particularly women of Native Hawaiian and Filipino descent.

The $157,000 grant comes from the Department of Health & Human Services Administration for Children and Families.

U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz said Thursday the grant will allow the center to design culturally specific services. Schatz said he wrote a letter to DHHS in August advocating for the funding.
