GILMER, TX (KLTV) -
The Gilmer Police Department confirms with KLTV 7 that one person was killed Thursday night at the football game between Gilmer and Gladewater.
Gilmer Police, the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, and DPS officers are all at the scene outside of Gilmer High School.
Longview Police confirm tonight that they have been notified by Gilmer PD that a suspect involved in this case may be headed to Longview tonight.
The Gilmer ISD superintendent, Rick Albritton, released this statement: "Gilmer ISD officials can confirm that a disturbance occurred on the premises on Gilmer ISD tonight. The board and administration want to assure all parents that no students were involved and all students are safe. This incident was completely unrelated to the Gilmer/Gladewater 8th grade football game. Gilmer police are currently investigating the matter."
Albritton told KLTV 7 that school will go on as planned at Gilmer ISD on Friday. It is still unclear if the varsity football game between Gilmer and Gladewater, scheduled for Friday night in Gilmer, will take place as scheduled.
