Two additional arrests made in Kahuku goat theft

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Officials with the Honolulu Police Department say that two more men were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the theft of goats from a North Shore farm.

Police records show that Shannon Keola Chun, 24, and Sherwin Mitchell, 24, were both arrested on suspicion of livestock theft, a felony.

25-year-old George Makaniole of Waialua was arrested on Tuesday for the theft. Police department officials say he was released on Wednesday pending investigation.

The owner of the Kahuku Goats farm says more than 20 purebred goats, most of them pregnant, were stolen between Thursday night and Friday morning. Keal Pontin believes the thief used duct tape to keep the animals from making noise.

He suspects the thieves watched the farm, got to know their routine, then waited for a full moon.

21 of the goats were pregnant and 10 of them were days away from giving birth.

None of the goats stolen from the farm have been recovered.
