Wildfire burns near Kauai resort

LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Firefighters on Kauai extinguished a wildfire early Monday morning that burned nearly 42 acres of brush near the Aloha Beach Resort in Kapaa.

A Kauai County spokesperson says that firefighters received an alarm call shortly before midnight alerting them of the fire, which was reportedly under control by about 3 a.m. and then extinguished about an hour later.

No injuries were reported during the fire, which was fought by sixteen firefighters from the Lihue, Kapaa and Kaiakea firestations.

Police officers closed Kuhio Highway for roughly three hours while crews worked to extinguish the flames.
