BIRMINGHAM, AL (SEC) -
LSU running back Jeremy Hill was named this week's SEC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to a 35-21 win over Auburn.
Hill rushed for a career-high 184 yards on 25 carries.
The LSU running back scored three touchdowns against Auburn, scoring the first two times he touched the ball – going 49 yards on the first TD and then followed that with a 12-yard scamper on his next carry. Both touchdowns came in the first five minutes of the game. He scored his third TD on a 6-yard run in the third quarter to stretch the LSU's lead to 28-7.
Hill added a 54-yard run down to the Auburn 1-yard line early in the second quarter that led to another LSU score and a 21-0 advantage.
LSU finished the game with 457 total yards (228 rushing, 229 passing).
Hill's 184 rushing yards were the most by an LSU Tiger since Alley Broussard set the school record with 250 yards against Ole Miss in 2004.
#6LSU plays #9 Georgia this Saturday at 2:30 CST on CBS.
SEC Players of the Week:
DEFENSE: Dante Fowler, DL, Florida • Had two forced fumbles against Tennessee and recovered one. • Recorded three tackles (for a total loss of 15 yards) and was the only Gator to claim a sack on the day. • Helped lead the Gator defense as they held Tennessee to just 66 rushing yards. • Helped force the Vols to two consecutive three-and-outs in the first half. • Four of Tennessee's first five drives resulted in negative yardage and 7 of 13 resulted in two yards or less.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Alan D'Appollonio, LS, Arkansas • Made first career reception on fake punt in 1st quarter at Rutgers. • Catch was for 24 yards on 4th and 6 from Arkansas 49-yard line, extending drive that ended with Arkansas field goal. • Has been perfect on PAT, field goal and punt snaps in 2013.
OFFENSIVE LINE: Gabe Jackson, G, Mississippi State • Jackson was instrumental in the Bulldogs amassing 551 yards, 235 on the ground. • The senior guard didn't have a missed assignment and was credited with 5 pancake blocks. • The 551 yards was the 14th most in school history while the 45 first-half points were the most in the modern era.
DEFENSIVE LINE: Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri • Ealy had perhaps the single biggest individual play of Saturday's game at Indiana, when, with the Hoosiers driving for a potential tying score right before half, he jumped to knock down a pass on a 3rd-and-3 at the MU 46-yardline with two minutes left. Instead of just knocking the ball down, however, Ealy got the ball to stick in his mitts, and he raced the other way for a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown. That staked the Tigers out to a 28-14 lead, and they never looked back the rest of the night, as the Tigers pulled away for the big road win. • The pickoff was the first of Ealy's career, and he ended the night with 2 total pass break ups overall, while adding one solo tackle as the Tigers held the vaunted Hoosier offense to well below their season averages coming in. • Through three games, Ealy leads the Tiger defense with 4 pass break ups. According to www.cfbstats.com, Ealy's 5 passes defended (PBU's plus INTs) ranks him 26th among all defenders nationally, and tied for first among all defensive linemen.
FRESHMAN: Reggie Davis, WR, Georgia • Davis caught the first two passes of his career and finished with 134 yards receiving and a touchdown in the 45-21 win over North Texas. • His first reception was a 98-yard touchdown catch from Aaron Murray (his career long); this was the longest offensive play in school history, it is tied for the third-longest receiving touchdown in SEC history and it is also the longest receiving touchdown in the FBS this year. • Davis helped the Bulldogs generate 641 total yards on offense against the Mean Green and more than 35 points for the third consecutive game of the season.
