Victims in drowning incidents on Oahu, Hawaii identified

HONOLULU (AP) - The names of 2 men who drowned in separate incidents have been released.

The Hawaii Fire Department says 27-year-old James McGivern Jr. of Paauilo died Friday while picking opihi with two friends.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports McGivern was swept into the ocean off Kawela's Beach near Honokaa. His body was recovered and he was pronounced dead at the Hale Hoola Hamakua Emergency Room.

A 60-year-old Pearl City man drowned Sunday off Oahu.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded after witnesses reported a body floating 20 feet from shore along the Pearl City Peninsula.

The Medical Examiner's Office says the man was identified as Gerald Wond.

Witnesses report Wond has been fishing from shore earlier Sunday.
