Friends of 33-year old Alex Gonzales say he was kind, always willing to help others. They can't believe someone would kill Gonzales, then dismember his body and dump him in a Waipio ravine.
"Why would anybody do such a thing to him... Or to anybody," says Sanito Kwan Him. Her son took college course with Gonzales and the two became fast friends.
"They became good friends... Alex started coming over to the house," says Kwan Him.
She describes Gonzales as polite, very easy to get along with.
But his ex-girlfriend, Rachel Main says he became depressed recently.
"We were still kind of together," says Main. "He was really upset when I moved and I feel kind of bad about that."
The two dated last year for about six months before Main moved to Ohio. She says she is devastated by the news of his death. She says he had started using drugs and was homeless for a time before moving in with friends.
Both Main and Sanito Kwan Him are hoping Honolulu Police find the killer soon. They don't just want to know who did this, but why.
