Grand jury indicts Honolulu man on arson count

HONOLULU (AP) - A man suspected of intentionally setting fire that caused $135,000 damage to an 18th-floor apartment has been indicted on an arson charge.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 28-year-old Dustin W. Saluda was indicted Tuesday on a first-degree arson count.

He remains jailed with bail set at $200,000.

Saluda lived with two roommates in Ala Wai Plaza's Park Tower.

Deputy city prosecutor Scott Spallina says Saluda lit the fire Sept. 10 and then stood near the doorway with knives. Spallina says Saluda was prepared to kill firefighters or his roommates if they entered to put out the fire. The fire eventually became too hot and Saluda left.

Honolulu police say Saluda told an officer he had started the fire because his roommates, the U.S. Marines and Honolulu police had hypnotized him.
