BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

One of Alabama's biggest football games of the season is three days away, but news that former Tide offensive tackle D.J. Fluker may have taken money from agents is providing a big distraction.

Fluker helped Alabama win the National Championship last season but a report from Yahoo! Sports cites text messages and financial records that have former Tide defensive end Luther Davis arranging for Fluker to be paid.

A few months ago Fluker Tweeted that he was indeed paid by an agent but later claimed that his account had been hacked.

Bill Battle, Director of Athletics at the University of Alabama, released the following statement on this situation:

"We have been aware of some of the allegations in today's story and our compliance department was looking into this situation prior to being notified that this story was actually going to be published. Our review is ongoing. We diligently educate our student-athletes on maintaining compliance with NCAA rules, and will continue to do so."

Accepting money from an agent while in college is in violation of NCAA rules and could result in a team forfeiting every win in which Fluker played.

At a press conference Wednesday evening, head coach Nick Saban made this statement about the allegations:

"Every time somebody brings something up about our program, we investigate, we do the best we can. There's nobody in the organization that wants to do anything that's not above board and we don't want our players to do it either."

The same report alleges that four other SEC players may have also taken money from agents: University of Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray, Tennessee defensive end Maurice Couch, Mississippi State University defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and Mississippi State wideout Chad Bumphis. Couch is the only one still playing college ball.

LSU went back to work this week in preparation for the Citrus Bowl against Notre Dame. A win would be nice, but this is also a chance to get some freshman playing time to get ready for 2018. Well it'll come in practice only. "Those guys will get more reps. So I'll give them a couple of more reps at the end of a team period. It's sending the wrong message to our football team.
