Man sentenced in Big Island hammer attack

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Big Island man convicted of attacking another person with a hammer has been sentenced to life in prison.

West Hawaii Today reports Robert Diego will need to serve at least 15 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.

The former mortician was found guilty of trying to kill Don Nigro nearly two years ago. Diego is also awaiting trial on a separate attempted murder charge.
