AU Men's Golf finishes 6th, Mondy tied for 5th

AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 12 Auburn men's golf team finished in sixth place at the Carpet Capita Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga. Jake Mondy was Auburn's highest individual finisher, shooting a final round 70 to finished tied for fifth at minus-5.

"We played a solid final round today and we were close to finishing strong," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "We have lots of work to do on our scoring irons if we want to complete for championships at this level. We have a young team and they will grow up fast this year. It's going to be a lot of fun helping them throughout the year."

As a team, Auburn shot plus-11 for the weekend, finishing just one stroke behind fifth-place North Carolina.

Monday birdied the ninth through 12th holes on Sunday en route to his final round 2-under score. After shooting a 75 on Friday, he shot a 3-under 69 on Saturday before Sunday's 2-under 70 to finish with a three-day score of 214.

Matt Gilchrest finished tied for 12th at even-par, shooting a 1-under 71 on Sunday. After birdieing the sixth on the front nine, he went birdie, birdie, eagle on the 10th through 12th holes. He shot a 72 on Friday, a 73 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday for a three-day total of 216.

Daniel Stringfellow shot a final round 74 to finish at plus-6 (222) on the weekend, tied for 33rd, while teammate Niclas Carlsson also carded a Sunday 74 to finish at plus-7 for the tournament, tied for 37th.

Will Long finished at plus-20 after a final round 81.

Victor Wiggins, playing as an individual, shot a 75 on the final day to also finish at plus-7.

Georgia Tech won the team competition at minus-14 while North Carolina's Bailey Patrick and Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans shared the individual title at minus-9 (207) for the weekend.

Auburn returns to tournament action Sept. 21-22 at Wolf Run in Zionsville, Ind.
