LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A two-car collision that occurred at a major Lihue intersection Thursday afternoon caused traffic delays for afternoon commuters.
The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. when a Ford sedan, heading south on Kapule Highway, attempted to make a left-hand turn into the Lihue Airport and was struck by an oncoming Honda minivan. The impact caused the minivan to veer onto the median and hit a traffic pole head-on.
The 31-year-old female driver of the minivan and her two passengers, ages 1 and 6, were treated by medics on scene and released. The male driver of the Ford sedan, age 67, and his 66-year-old female passenger were also treated and released on scene.
There were no road closures as a result of the crash, but both vehicles needed to be towed from the scene and traffic at the Kapule Highway/Ahukini Road intersection was backed up for roughly 40 minutes while police conducted their investigation.
