Lightning-sparked Pinion Fire contained

A wildfire burning in the Tonto National Forest is now completely contained, the U.S. Forest Service said Friday afternoon.

The Pinion Fire was originally pegged at 300 acres but better mapping led managers to cut the size to 200 acres.

The fire, reported on Wednesday, starting after lightning struck south of Roosevelt Lake and about 15 miles southeast of Tonto Basin.

The U.S. Forest Service said the Pinion Fire was declared 100 percent contained at noon Friday. There were a few smokes earlier Friday inside the containment line.

The fire has been placed in monitor status.
